Hacienda Sonora, Costa Rica

Hacienda Sonora producers Alberto & Diego Guardia are the creators of these awesome, single variety Honey and Natural Specials. Hacienda Sonora is located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, at the foot of the world-renowned, Poas Volcano. The farm’s area is approximately 100 hectares, which is composed of 65 hectares of shaded and unshaded coffee, and 35 hectares of wild forest.

The average altitude is 1,200 m (or 3,900 ft) above sea level. The coffee grows in an environment surrounded by exotic trees and other vegetation, providing a great condition for quality, as well as improving the chemistry of the already naturally rich volcanic soil. Thanks to the farm’s diverse ecosystem, many different species of birds and animals seek refuge in their land.

Sonora has 25 fixed employees and can employ up to 140 workers during harvest. They currently have 10 varieties in production and focus on Black Honey and Natural Process. Upon special request, they also make Fully Washed, Yellow Honey, Red Honey and Double Washed. Their goal is to maximize yield per area while keeping a complete nutrition program to maximize quality.
